Postdoc position at the Institute of Nuclear Physics PAN in Cracow Poland

The Henryk Niewodniczański Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences offers a postdoc position to support the development of the Einstein Telescope. Application deadline: November 5th 2025. The relevant information for this job is as follows:

II. Description:

The person employed as an assistant professor for a fixed term at the Cosmic Rays and Neutrinos Department – NZ15 at the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences will be required to participate in research topics and projects currently underway and planned for the near future at the NZ15 Department. In particular, they will carry out work related to the study of gravitational waves using experiments aimed at measuring gravitational waves, primarily as part of the Einstein Telescope project currently in preparation. The employed person will also be obliged to disseminate the results of research in the form of publications in leading scientific journals indexed in the JCR and speeches during seminars and conferences, including international ones. This person will also be obliged to apply for external funding for research.

III. Required qualifications:

  • PhD in astronomy, physical sciences, or a related discipline,
  • solid scientific achievements documented by publications in prestigious international scientific journals,
  • knowledge of gravitational wave research in connection with issues in elementary particle physics, astrophysics, and astronomy,
  • experience in observational gravitational wave astrophysics, including experimental instrumentation or analysis, interpretation, and modeling of observational data, or theoretical modeling of gravitational wave signals from cosmic sources,
  • ability to work in large international collaborations,
  • good knowledge of modern programming languages (Python, C++, or Fortran),
  • very good command of spoken and written English.

Welcome:

  • knowledge of LIGO or VIRGO experiments, both in terms of instrumentation and data analysis,
  • experience in working on large international scientific projects.
