postdoc computational relativistic astrophysics of neutron star mergers Jena

The Institute for Theoretical Physics (TPI) of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena announces one Post-doctoral Researcher Position. The position is associated with the research group of Prof. Sebastiano Bernuzzi at the TPI Jena and it is funded by the European Research Council consolidator grant 101043372 'InspiReM ' of the Horizon programme.

The successful researcher is expected to work on simulations of binary neutron star mergers in general relativity including high-performance computing, magnetohydrodynamics,
microphysics, nuclear physics aspects, radiation transport, and ab-initio modeling of astrophysical observables.
Candidates with demonstrated expertise in these areas are particularly encouraged to apply.

Qualification requirements:
PhD in theoretical or computational physics
Preferably experienced in numerical relativity and/or computational astrophysics.
Fluent communication skills in English, both spoken and written are required

Main tasks:
Research in highly inter-disciplinary team
Excellent local computer support and HPC facilities
Generous budget for attending conferences and workshops

Full-time position in standard class salary E13 and insurance benefits
Participation in an excellent international, multi-disciplinary research team
Possibility of co-supervision of students and help in teaching
Possibility to participate to international networks and collaborations (LIGO-Virgo, LISA, Einstein Telescope, CoRe)
